OVERVIEW

Founded on the philosophy of innovation through collaboration, Fender Katsalidis has evolved from a Melbourne-centric architectural practice, to a highly awarded, multi-disciplinary international design firm whose work now influences built environment thinking across the globe.

Specialists in multi-residential, cultural, commercial, aged care and hotel typologies, we seek and deliver holistic solutions in architecture, masterplanning, urban design and interiors—solutions notable not only for their design quality, but also their civic contribution and economic mindfulness.

To ensure such outcomes remain our hallmark—and expose the practice to new and different ways of thinking—we frequently bring together local and international consultant teams to work side-by-side with our own.

The quest for holistic solutions has also driven us to extend our expertise far beyond the expected. Fender Katsalidis was a pioneer, and remains a leader, in 3D virtual modelling and building information systems, while the Unitised Building system invented by practice co-founder, Nonda Katsalidis, continues to revolutionise construction timeframes and costs.

Perhaps best known for our definitive tall building and public realm design, we are equally proud of our lesser profile achievements: the documentation and quality assurance processes, for example, regarded as the gold standard throughout the construction industry.

As sophisticated as our technology may be, and as reliable as our processes have proven themselves, we know that ultimately it’s experience that ensures the original design vision is realised. Our directors thus remain ‘hands on’ with every project from inception to completion.

The emergence of Fender Katsalidis as a global, design-led practice is as much a measure of our culture, as it is our creativity.

A true design studio, we solve problems collaboratively: one team, comprising many points of view, approaches, levels of experience and areas of specialist knowledge — augmented where required by best-of-breed consultants — all focused on realising the best possible client outcome.

That teamwork and interplay of roles, ideas and contributions continues throughout the life of the many and varied projects we undertake, ensuring each team member is continually challenged, and continually growing in expertise.

EMPLOYMENT

PROJECT ARCHITECTS MELBOURNE & SYDNEY

Fender Katsalidis welcomes registrations of interest from talented Project Architects.

FK’s Project Architects perform senior roles on projects and are generally regarded as being on a pathway to leadership positions within the practice.  They work closely with our Directors and Principals and have direct involvement throughout the design and delivery stages. 

To be effective in the role, a practitioner must be competent and experienced in the following areas of responsibility:  

  • Communication and negotiation with project clients and consultants;
  • Leading of project teams and mentoring of team members;
  • The application and coordination of consultant services inputs; and
  • The production of design development and/or construction documentation packages and working drawings to satisfy project timelines.

Applicants should demonstrate their ability to deliver high quality design and documentation of large-scale projects through a compelling portfolio of work.  Skill in the use of ArchiCAD will be highly regarded.  

Salary packages and general terms are negotiable in accordance with experience and market rates.

PROFESSIONAL RECEPTIONIST MELBOURNE

Fender Katsalidis is an award-winning architectural studio highly regarded for its vibrant studio culture and sophisticated methodology.  We are seeking an experienced and professional receptionist to lead our front-of-house operations and function as a key representative of the company.    

This role requires impeccable presentation, a high level of attention to detail, friendly and professional communication skills and the ability to host and interact with staff, visitors, suppliers and clients on a variety of levels in an accommodating and conscientious manner.  By nature, the successful individual consistently maintains a calm demeanour and approaches their working day with initiative and a positive attitude. 

Day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Maintaining a presentable studio - daily set-up of reception and boardroom spaces, kitchen and kitchenette, print and supply areas;
  • Coordination of boardroom bookings for all FK hosted meetings, in-house training and industry events;
  • Meet and greet visitors, attend to their needs and provide refreshments;
  • Liaise with architectural industry suppliers; 
  • Coordinate and maintain reliable reception functions - couriers, cab-charge, distribution of mail, catering etc;
  • Troubleshoot and maintain company phone and boardroom AV systems;
  • Provide assistance with the organisation of staff functions and be an enthusiastic member of the social committee;
  • Provide broader assistance to the Studio Administrator, HR Coordinator and Finance team with data entry, printing, filing etc; and
  • Perform and coordinate general office errands for the wider studio.

The preferred candidate will have strong PC and Microsoft Office skills and be enthusiastic in learning and championing our boardroom audio visual systems ensuring the delivery of seamless client presentations. 

This is a full-time role 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday; which requires you to be punctual, reliable and have a reasonably flexible attitude towards working hours from time to time.  Salary will be negotiated with reference to applicant's own skills and experience.
