Founded on the philosophy of innovation through collaboration, Fender Katsalidis has evolved from a Melbourne-centric architectural practice, to a highly awarded, multi-disciplinary international design firm whose work now influences built environment thinking across the globe.

Specialists in multi-residential, cultural, commercial, aged care and hotel typologies, we seek and deliver holistic solutions in architecture, masterplanning, urban design and interiors—solutions notable not only for their design quality, but also their civic contribution and economic mindfulness.

To ensure such outcomes remain our hallmark—and expose the practice to new and different ways of thinking—we frequently bring together local and international consultant teams to work side-by-side with our own.

The quest for holistic solutions has also driven us to extend our expertise far beyond the expected. Fender Katsalidis was a pioneer, and remains a leader, in 3D virtual modelling and building information systems, while the Unitised Building system invented by practice co-founder, Nonda Katsalidis, continues to revolutionise construction timeframes and costs.

Perhaps best known for our definitive tall building and public realm design, we are equally proud of our lesser profile achievements: the documentation and quality assurance processes, for example, regarded as the gold standard throughout the construction industry.

As sophisticated as our technology may be, and as reliable as our processes have proven themselves, we know that ultimately it’s experience that ensures the original design vision is realised. Our directors thus remain ‘hands on’ with every project from inception to completion.

EMPLOYMENT

GRADUATE OF ARCHITECTURE MELBOURNE

Fender Katsalidis is currently looking for a Graduate of Architecture to join our established team in Melbourne.  

The successful candidate will have a minimum of two years post-graduate industry experience and advanced working knowledge of both ArchiCAD and 3D Studio Max.  Their portfolio should further demonstrate broad experience across all phases of project delivery including both early design phases through to construction documentation on large-scale commercial and/or multi-residential project typologies.  

As a Graduate, you shall have completed your Masters of Architecture or equivalent tertiary education and your experience should have you well-versed in Australian building codes and standards.  

Detailing strength in the areas of sketch design, consultant coordination, details for construction, schedules and presentation packages are ALL of significant interest.  As is competency in the use of other software packages such as; Photoshop, Indesign, Artlantis and Lumion.  

Working as part of a dynamic team, day-to-day project tasks and responsibilities include: 

  • Prepare and edit sketches, plans and working drawings of sections, elevations and specifications;
  • Prepare technical presentation material through modelling and massing to communicate design ideas; and
  • Research, understand and comply with relevant building codes and standards, including safe design principles.

PROJECT ACCOUNTANT MELBOURNE

Fender Katsalidis is seeking a candidate who is driven, on the ball – and on the numbers too – to join our Melbourne studio in the role of Project Accountant.

We’re an award-winning design studio known for delivering meaningful projects across urban design, architecture and interiors. We work collaboratively with our clients to deliver a shared design vision.

We want our ideal candidate to share in this vision as well. So, as a valued part of our creative and ambitious finance team, this role involves:

  • preparing really accurate reports to analyse project performance
  • maintaining project fee revenue forecasts and budgets
  • monitoring work in progress
  • liaising with project leaders in preparation for routine monthly billing process

Other areas of responsibility include:

  • working on debtor control
  • set-up and maintain project financial information and records
  • contributing to month-end processes and other team milestones

Nearly everything we do is done as a team. As Project Accountant, that means you shall report to and seek guidance from our experienced Senior Project Accountant and Finance Lead to ensure accurate and timely project accounting and reporting. We’ll be there to help out with any necessary training and provide ongoing support.

As an ideal candidate, you will have a project accounting background and experience in a professional services environment. You must have a proven understanding of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel and experience in the practical use of an accounting system. We use Deltek, so prior experience with that is highly regarded.

This is a full-time, 8:30am-to-5:30pm, Monday-to-Friday role.

Salary will be negotiated with reference to skill and experience.

HR & ACCOUNTS ASSISTANT MELBOURNE

We’re an award-winning design studio known for delivering meaningful projects across urban design, architecture and interiors.  We have a newly created role of HR & Accounts Assistant which is perfect for a confident and motivated individual looking to launch their career in business. 

Our ideal candidate has a personable nature and a proactive attitude.  You’re a natural problem solver, thoughtful communicator and have an enthusiastic approach to supporting your crew.    

In order to support the ambitious and creative HR and Finance team, we will require your astute assistance on:

  • Fortnightly payroll processing and other payroll related tasks
  • Maintaining HR and payroll records
  • HR reporting and routine processes
  • Implementation of a new HR system
  • Recruitment activities
  • Overseeing accounts payable workflow
  • Other accounts related activities such as travel and disbursements

Nearly everything we do is done as a team. That means you shall report to and seek guidance from our HR Manager and Management Accountant to ensure alignment of priorities and a coordinated response to tasks and responsibilities.  We’ll be there with all the necessary training and ongoing support.

Our preferred candidate has strong PC and Microsoft Office skills, particularly with Excel, and has an all-round knowledge and interest in areas of business administration.  Bonus points if you have experience using Micropay or Sage People.  This role is suitable to a motivated business, finance or HR graduate interested in learning about the design and professional services environment.

OFFICE MANAGER SYDNEY

We’re an award-winning design studio known for delivering meaningful projects across urban design, architecture and interiors.

Critical to our ongoing success, team spirit and growth is the day-to-day management and studio support, specifically provided by the Office Manager. We rely on them to attend to a diverse range of responsibilities that include:

  • Collaborating with studio leadership on a range of operational, finance and administrative requirements
  • Oversee reception, marketing activities and IT requirements
  • Coordinate local HR activities and processes
  • Assist with project team planning, revenue forecasting and billings processes
  • Oversee and authorise office expenditure within set budgets
  • Ensure premises issues receive timely and appropriate attention
  • Maintain a professional and safe work environment for all team members

Due to an extended leave period of the incumbent, we are looking for someone on a 6-12-month term for our Sydney studio. Our ideal candidate is personable with an enthusiastic approach to supporting project-based creative teams in a design studio. This person is professionally presented and has a proactive attitude, as this role requires strong skills in communication, prioritisation of tasks and problem solving. Experience initiating and maintaining process and compliance across a range of finance and administrative functions is required.

This position is well-suited to an individual with a qualification in a relevant business discipline and a working knowledge of a design-based professional services environment.
