Founded on the philosophy of innovation through collaboration, Fender Katsalidis has evolved from a Melbourne-centric architectural practice, to a highly awarded, multi-disciplinary international design firm whose work now influences built environment thinking across the globe.

Specialists in multi-residential, cultural, commercial, aged care and hotel typologies, we seek and deliver holistic solutions in architecture, masterplanning, urban design and interiors—solutions notable not only for their design quality, but also their civic contribution and economic mindfulness.

To ensure such outcomes remain our hallmark—and expose the practice to new and different ways of thinking—we frequently bring together local and international consultant teams to work side-by-side with our own.

The quest for holistic solutions has also driven us to extend our expertise far beyond the expected. Fender Katsalidis was a pioneer, and remains a leader, in 3D virtual modelling and building information systems, while the Unitised Building system invented by practice co-founder, Nonda Katsalidis, continues to revolutionise construction timeframes and costs.

Perhaps best known for our definitive tall building and public realm design, we are equally proud of our lesser profile achievements: the documentation and quality assurance processes, for example, regarded as the gold standard throughout the construction industry.

EMPLOYMENT

STUDENTS OF ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR DESIGN MELBOURNE

Fender Katsalidis is seeking talented Students of Architecture and Interior Design to join our Melbourne studio team.

We’re an award-winning architectural firm with offices also in Sydney and Brisbane and landmark developments across Australia and Asia. We’ve designed Melbourne’s tallest, most recognisable pair of buildings, the soon-to-be second-tallest skyscraper in the world and the largest private museum in the Southern Hemisphere, among others.

Structures aside, we’re equally proud of the culture we’ve built here at FK. Which is why we aim to hire people who share the same passion for design and the built environment as they do for teamwork and collaboration.

A Student of Architecture is still studying either their bachelor’s or Master of Architecture, while a Student of Interior Design will be studying a formal Interior Design qualification. They are driven, passionate and ready to jump into what may be their first role at an Architecture practice. At FK we do not expect our students to know everything, you are here to learn and grow, but we do expect a great attitude, a good design eye and a passion for the built environment.

Preferred Qualifications and Experience:

  • Currently enrolled in a formal qualification in Architecture or Interior Design
  • No working experience required – work samples/portfolio displaying creativity and an eye for design will be assessed as an alternative.
  • Experience using ArchiCAD preferred.
  • Experience using Adobe Suite required.

This important role will involve:

  • Having a strong design eye and the ability to clearly communicate the design intent.
  • Utilizing strong graphic skills to put together project presentations.
  • Being flexible and adaptable, embracing the varying roles the Student is expected to fulfil.
  • Being accountable for all work produced by ensuring it is finished to the highest standard and is double checked before being issued to senior team members.
  • Demonstrating competencies in dealing with work requiring high levels of accuracy and attention to detail.

And as our next Student of Architecture or Interior Design, you will:

  • Have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and the ability to develop productive working relationships and manage those relationships with maturity and confidence.
  • Having the ability to manage multiple priorities and to work under pressure with a degree of autonomy.
  • Have the ability to work under pressure, managing multiple conflicting priorities and meeting timeframes.
  • Utilise effective problem solving and negotiation skills to make informed, timely, and effective decisions.

SENIOR MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT MELBOURNE

Fender Katsalidis is a leading architecture and design studio known for delivering large-scale projects throughout Australia and Asia via studios located in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane and Kuala Lumpur. 

Our national practice finance team located in Melbourne is currently seeking an experienced Senior Management Accountant for a full time permanent appointment. Our successful candidate will be integral to the company’s corporate governance, strong cash security and compliance within the company.

The position description below outlines the key elements of this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Cash security and cashflow management.
  • Overview and monitoring of all cash outflows including shareholder distributions and verification payroll related information and processes.
  • Analyse and report on company Revenue, WIP and Expense trends and metrics monthly.
  • Budget review and managing budget performance.
  • Assist with debtor management and analysis.
  • Dividend strategy and planning as required.
  • End of month procedures including review of general ledgers, bank reconciliation and reporting and analysis of financial statements.
  • Liaising with external consultants including, external accounting services, banks, payroll, and insurance consultants.
  • Facilitate statutory reporting and payments including BAS, Superannuation, PAYGW and Payroll tax.
  • Work closely with other core team members to ensure financial initiatives and processes are aligned to the direction of the company’s financial strategy.
  • General research and guidance relating to taxation matters.

Key Skills:

  • Strong governance and analytical capabilities.
  • Competencies in dealing with work requiring high levels of diligence, accuracy and attention to detail.

BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT MANAGER MELBOURNE OR SYDNEY

Fender Katsalidis is looking for a Business Development Manager to join their National Team. Located in either Melbourne or Sydney, this person will be passionate about the built environment and ready to join an ambitious team focused on growth. FK is a design lead architecture practice with an incredibly strong brand and reputation. Our marketing effort is supported by our strong brand, track record and our people.

Our team's strategic plan for the next decade includes a prominent shift to strategic marketing and business development activity targeting premium national and international clients in the private and public sectors. We envision project work in commercial, large-scale mixed use, build-to-rent, retirement living, aged care, hospitality, education and cultural sectors as strong areas of future focus for our planning, architecture and interior design capability.

As a member of the Marketing and Business Development department the BDM’s main focus is to assist guide and enable FK’s Principals and Directors to go out and win new Architectural and Interior Design work. Well versed in research techniques and the built environment the BDM will focus on finding and creating opportunities for FK

Our people are passionate about Business Development and through our Marketing and Business Development Committees we would expect the successful candidate to engage and mentor our people in all things business development.

Position Description

The addition of a Business Development Manager to our leadership is a national role and will be a foundation for the build-up of a strong support base to help our key people win the right projects in our sectors of focus and with clients who will enjoy and respect the experience of engaging with FK and our collaborators.

To succeed in this role, a person shall require an entrepreneurial mindset and the ability to think and act strategically in the expansion of our relationships with existing and potential clients in our sectors of focus. A strong existing network with potential commercial buildings sector clients is highly desirable. We are seeking a commercial, motivated, creative, articulate people person with a passion for business development and the growth of a creative enterprise.

At leadership team level the incumbent will participate and actively contribute within a variety of senior staff forums including leadership team meetings, key committees, FK national conferences and so forth.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting Directors to create and manage the implementation of an agreed business development strategy.
  • Instruct the design and delivery standards of bid packages, submissions, and competition entries for major projects.
  • Providing strategic ideas, solutions and recommendations to Directors on business development activities in relation to all FK locations.
  • Research thoroughly the built environment and new business opportunities for pursuit by FK Principals and Directors.
  • Collection and analysis of data and information to drive our campaigns.
  • Continuously work to build or implement the tools required to support the overall effort to procure strategic clients and projects.
  • Working to enable FK Principals and Directors to convert opportunities to real work.
  • Assisting the wider Marketing and BD team with the tender process in the office, including writing content, coordinating, and managing any other team members contributing and when necessary attending tender interviews.
  • Ensuring all new project leads are accurately entered into our project management system (Deltek)
  • Facilitating and coordinating ongoing liaison with clients to enable project teams maintain ongoing relationships with potential new clients.
  • Work with the Marketing and BD team to expand FK’s presence in the market. 
  • Pitch team coaching.
  • Staying up to date with industry trends and technological advancements.
  • Attend the appropriate number of networking and training events each year to maintain a professional status.

Deliverables

  • Monthly reporting to directors on new BD opportunities.
  • Development of win and earn targets.
  • Business improvement and strategy development.
