The offices of the future already exist. FK’s latest research reveals that adapting and reusing ageing commercial buildings holds the key to tackling climate change, attracting workforces and revitalising city centres.
As the need for climate action accelerates, vacancy pressures rise and competition for talent intensifies, the value of existing office assets must be unlocked. Supporting this premise, FK’s new research paper reveals that the preferences and desires of workers across Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne – from sustainability and amenity to character and experience – can all be met by reimagining older workplaces, rather than building new. Yet awareness of this latent potential remains low, with only 60% of workers familiar with the concept of ‘reuse’ and its many benefits.
The opportunity is profound: by reframing and reinvesting in our ageing offices, we can reduce our carbon footprint, elevate the employee experience and entice workers back to the CBD.
FK invites asset owners and managers, tenants, leasing agents and the wider built environment community to explore the research and join the renewable real estate conversation.
