Reporting Back from a Scandinavian Design Odyssey

FK Head of Design, Nicky Drobis, has recently returned from a design pilgrimage through Copenhagen, Stockholm and Finland, exploring some of the world’s most influential contemporary and historic design destinations.

The journey included attending Copenhagen’s renowned 3daysofdesign festival and visiting the iconic works of Aino and Alvar Aalto. From globally recognised brands and emerging designers to heritage buildings and independent exhibitions, the experience offered valuable insights into the evolving role of design in shaping how people live, connect and interact with the world around them.

A key reflection from the trip was the enduring relevance of human-centred design. Experiencing the work of Aino and Alvar Aalto firsthand reinforced the idea that, even amid rapid technological change and growing complexity, the most meaningful and enduring design begins with people.

These insights continue to inform FK’s approach to creating places that enrich everyday life, foster connection and respond authentically to their cultural and physical context.
