Bendigo Art Gallery
In 1996, Fender Katsalidis was commissioned by the City of Bendigo for the design of extensions to the three existing heritage art gallery buildings, including their renovation.
This project, completed in three stages over 15 years, comprises new facilities for housing permanent and temporary collections, works on paper, sculpture annex, storage space, restaurant, retail outlet, loading dock and administrative offices.
This gallery, which drew 10,000 visitors per year before the renovation, now often enjoys visitations of 250,000 per major exhibition.
The building was awarded the RAIA Regional Architectural Prize in 2002.
