Ibis Styles
Fender Katsalidis was commissioned to undertake the design of ibis’ largest Australasian hotel.
In the heart of the Brisbane CBD, the $50 million hotel has 368 keys.
The design greatly exceeds the standard ibis benchmark. Two separate heritage facades of differing periods have been retained and restored markedly better than their existing condition.
The new tower, of reinforced concrete with a double-glazed window wall, will rise 27 storeys tall. It has been designed as distinctive yet respectful to the heritage facades, as per the Burra Charter.
The façade is a play between two alternating glazing systems, arranged to represent a cascading frontage.
Highly reflective clear glass alternates with a less reflective grey finish – the latter of which is recessed into the frame, creating stepping undulations in the façade.
A rapid construction programme was successfully adhered to, expedited by Fender Katsalidis’ design, collaborative efforts and attentive on-site presence.
