Melbourne Quarter Display Suite
Melbourne Quarter is a city block sized mixed use redevelopment by Lendlease on a brownfields site linking the Melbourne CBD with the adjoining Docklands.
With a responsibility for masterplanning the site and subsequently the detailed design and delivery of the residential component of the development (approximately 1,800 apartments plus associated uses) FK has been an integral member of the MQ team since the project inception in 2015.
We were engaged by Lendlease for the design of the marketing suite in Collins Street opposite Southern Cross rail station.
This suite responds to several needs. A primary need is to allow potential purchasers to understand the experience of living inside a Melbourne Quarter apartment. Accordingly the display suite included full scale kitchen and bathroom installations as well as conveying the sense of the living qualities of the apartments.
However there was also a need to convey the qualities of this new suburb, its links back to historic Melbourne and its vision of a cosmopolitan future. The suite therefore included a cinematic experience space to “transport” visitors to their future.
The site for the suite was restricted, and suspended over rail lines. Accordingly the best solution was a prefabricated building which could be lifted into place in sections. FK worked closely with Lendlease and the prefabrication contractor in the resultant design and construction.
Once the building was on site, we were integral to the fitout and curation of furnishings, artworks and look and feel of the suite.
