The specially-designed apartment of Molonglo Group Director Nectar Efkarpidis is in the northwest corner of the building. It is the result of a passionate design collaboration among the building’s architect, the owner, the owner’s public art coordinator, commissioned artists and craftspeople and the fitout manager.
A melding of simple spatial articulation with a richness of robust materials, works of art and sheer personality, this apartment’s design is a clear manifesto for the world-aware, highly sophisticated and diverse contemporary culture of Canberra.
In its exploration of spatial possibilities and its simple expression of structure allied with a richness of design responses, this apartment represents a remarkable balance of design outcome within the context of project budget limits.
The owner set out to demonstrate how the collaborative work of many different teams could speak imaginatively in the rich layering of oblique content, images, and volumetric form within the intentionally small and sustainable scale of this four-room residence.
