Sofitel Wentworth
Sofitel Wentworth is a landmark hotel located in the heart of Sydney’s CBD with a deep cultural history. Built in the 1960s this heritage-listed property was the first international 5-star hotel in Australia, and was once a nightlife hotspot.
FK has been engaged by Futuro Capital to reimagine both its architectural and social heritage into a contemporary, luxurious destination for operator Accor Hotels.
The refurbishment aims to bring the hotel’s current clientele from business travellers to a must-visit destination for Sydneysiders and travellers alike by extending Sofitel’s F&B offering with boutique restaurants, bars, and rooftop amenities.
The project includes reviving the porte-cochere, arrival lounge and reception and adding extensive restaurant and bar offerings across the ground floor and upper levels of the podium. In addition, the redevelopment includes new wellness facilities, business lounges and rooftop amenities throughout the hotel and the refurbishment of 450 guestrooms and suites.
Sitting within a heritage overlay, we are working alongside heritage experts to recreate the success and glamour of the 1960s. The hotel’s green iron porte-cochere has informed the design’s tonal and restrained palette, ensuring the modernist building features are respected. Spaces throughout the hotel will be complimented with warm creams and soft bronze, bringing the bold green into a modern colourway.
Thresholds will be met with bold colours and refined use of materiality. Bronze metal cladding on the porte-cochere soffit has been designed to provide a sense of glamour and arrival for guests. A bespoke lighting feature will travel above the lobby space as it guides visitors to the concierge desk and lifts.
