As a principal with Fender Katsalidis, anything that Joe starts gets built. This has earned him the reputation of being a reliable ‘go-to’ and problem solver who is always able to find a buildable solution.

Driven to meet design outcomes, Joe can see things from various viewpoints, balancing design, client or authority perspectives. While overseeing a variety of projects across all stages, Joe manages teams, liaises with clients and acts as a mentor to his colleagues.

After a brief period of working on luxury residential and hospitality developments in Dubai, Joe started with FK working on the NewActon and 4 National Circuit projects in Canberra. Taking on a leading role with NewActon South, it became the first $150 million project that he would deliver.

Joe has more recently become involved in the town planning and early stages of projects such as Flinders Bank, EastCo and Riverside Quay Rooftop – ensuring each responds to its surroundings, while meeting the necessary requirements to land key tenants. With a shift towards adaptive reuse, Joe has also led the process to breathe new life to existing commercial assets like 90 Collins Street and 500 Bourke Street in Melbourne’s CBD.

For Joe, the most rewarding aspect of the design process is seeing a drawing become reality, then delivering that to the client and end user. He attributes this ability turn vision into highly buildable outcomes to his close working relationships and personal rapport with his clients. Whenever Joe returns to one of his buildings, he can’t help but feel a proud sense of custodianship.
