Jim’s early days in architecture were spent in small practice, focused on single dwellings and modest community projects.

Jim’s early days in architecture were spent in small practice, focused on single dwellings and modest community projects.

On joining Fender Katsalidis in 2015, he immediately started working on the Australia 108 mega tower: a quantum leap of scale and complexity that quickly revealed the value of his enquiring mind, capacity for detail and talent for lateral thought.

An active listener, Jim is able to assimilate new ideas and information at speed, enabling him to interact with engineers, builders and other consultants at an unusually high level. He is also an effective communicator, able to articulate his thoughts and ideas with brevity and precision.

Exemplified by his contributions to Merdeka 118, Flinders Bank and Sky Village—to name but a few—Jim’s command of detail and creative problem solving make him a valuable asset at any project stage.

He is particularly passionate about sustainability—especially thermal comfort and performance—and is a trained passive house designer. Jim’s other passion is Lego, a hobby he has enjoyed since childhood.

Jim served on the Board of the Australian Passive House Association from 2014-2016 and regularly teaches a sustainable design studio at the Melbourne School of Design. He is also a founder of the Fender Katsalidis sustainability research and development group.
